Go through Creative Media Storage Ideas for the Family Room additional

Family Rooms

Media storage can be a real issue in the family room as your family adds to movie, music, and game collections. You want to protect the massive investment associated with each of these genres, but do not want the room to look cheap or outdated. Most of us who spend that kind of money also want to be able to showcase the collections that we work so hard to put together. That is not unreasonable, but the level of sophistication for your storage ideas is often dictated by your own budget.

Creative media storage ideas for the family room are often about balancing your need for storage with your budget considerations. Shelving and bookcases are attractive, but can be costly. Milk crates and cardboard boxes look tacky, but are easy to find and do the job in a pinch. Here are some other ideas for creative media storage ideas for the family room in your home.

Boxy Ideas

There are many ways to incorporate boxes that you may already have for a creative media storage idea. Footlockers, trunks, chests, and similar methods work great for storing a variety of media, such as CDs, DVDs, VHS movies, video games, and much more, without worrying about damage. They are also easy to use for organization, and you can customize the box with creative accents.

These creative storage ideas are versatile and functional, often doubling as foot rests, end tables, or coffee tables in addition to valuable storage space. Those with drawers for access to the stored media are a great place to stand a lamp or other light as well. This is another great way to save money: Choose creative media storage ideas that are multi-purpose or multi-functional.

People use milk crates and similar storage ideas for media, but they can look less sophisticated at best. Use online resources, such as auction websites, to find great storage ideas without having to spend a lot of money. The more you save, the more you can put back into your media budget.

Existing Storage

You may not even realize how much storage you already have available in your family room, such as underneath the entertainment center or beneath an aquarium. Bookshelves can make great storage for movies, music, and games, and you can easily see what you have. For a modern approach to storage, consider shelves that line the top of each wall, to keep all media out of reach of little hands without hiding them in drawers or bins. Sometimes, the best and most affordable idea is to just use what you have.

Budget can be your key consideration when you are thinking of creative media storage ideas for the family room, as some storage alternatives are much more costly than others. The best start to this type of project is always to organize what you have and discover what you want to keep versus what you would be willing to give up. The less there is to organize and store, the cheaper the option will become in most cases.

Decorating Ideas For Family Room

Expressing your style with cheap decorating ideas is just what we need sometimes to make changes to the way our rooms look without investing a lot of time and (more importantly) money.

One of the easiest and most rewarding ways to make a big change is clearing out your clutter and editing your belongings.

I know it doesn't sound very exciting but when you do this you will feel less stress and discover that you probably don't need some of the furnishings you thought you were going to need prior to this task and your rooms will look different (and cleaner.)

Secondly, with your rooms looking different now that you have removed the clutter, you may be inspired to change the arrangement of the furniture. Just by changing the way the room is arranged gives a whole new perspective on the room's appearance and definitely one of the best cheap decorating ideas you can use.

Borrow some of your home furnishings from one room into another. If you have had the same artwork for example hanging in one room, change it up a bit by rotating it to another room for a fresh look in both areas.

Do a little planning before you actually do the heavy lifting. It is best to ask yourself and really analyze the way you use or want to use the room, and writing down the needs of the room this way can answer the question of what pieces you may need to acquire.

For example if you thought you needed more storage, a new arrangement can address the proper size and what type of storage piece, (a bookcase or chest of drawers) that would be best suited, and where it should be placed. It could be the chest of drawers that is not being used in the guests' bedroom given new life in the family room to hold board games and such.

And if you are going so far as to changing a few pieces of furniture and you find that the living room would actually make a better suited room for dining, go for it and make the change.

Color

You've heard this before but using color with paint really is one of the best cheap decorating ideas for changing the whole look and feel of a room.
If you don't have time nor the inclination to paint an entire room, do just one wall. But paint it in an attention grabbing color for the best impact, but if your furniture is already in strong colors paint in a tone that will compliment and not contrast your furnishings.
Add color with a decorative pillow (or two) to change the look of a room and to transition from one season to the next.
Draw inspiration from this pillow and the new color for other accessories to finish pulling the room together.

Start your "shopping" in the other rooms of the home, focusing on the color from the inspiration piece (in this case the pillow) and pick things in this one color to experiment with new table top and mantel arrangements or the bookcase with your "new" accessories.

Shopping

When you do go out to shop for any home furnishings or accents, which really will be new, be flexible and take your time visiting many different resources for a unique mix of the best finds.
The many resources could include home centers like the Home Depot, nothing says outdoor furniture can only be used outside, and be sure to check out the plants.

Houseplants are cheap decorating ideas that bring a living and vital presence to any setting they inhabit.

Choose plants that will express your personal style. Baby breath enhances a cottage decorating theme or huge bold Monstera leaves for a modern interior.
Use them on mantels or consoles to soften any hard edges. Gather up some knotty branches from outside and put in a tall vase for a dramatic arrangement for in the foyer or to create height on top of an armoire.

Consignment shops can be a goldmine, and antique and flea markets are great especially if you have a cottage, shabby chic or retro decorating themes.

Going to an auction or an estate sale can be a lot of fun and a great place to find one of a kind home furnishings and decor.

Take photos of the areas you need to shop for including the colors in the area rugs or upholstery, this way if you are debating whether something is going to look right, you can refer to your photos.

And don't forget to peruse through the home sections of the neighborhood Walmart, Kmart and the craft stores for cheap decorating ideas, and my personal favorites, Homegoods, Marshalls and Target.

Understand The Home Office Is Now The Family's Favourite Room much more

Isn't it strange how things in life can change right before our very eyes and we don't notice?

Once upon a time, families would all eat together formally, around a dining table, discussing the day's events and sharing stories. They would subsequently relax in the sitting room or lounge to watch the same programmes on the one television in the household.

Sometime later, although meals were still taken as a family, it was now popular to eat informally at the kitchen table. A practical move as tidying up was simpler. Installing a second television in the kitchen added to the entertainment. The dining room was now kept for special occasions, holidays and dinner parties.

The TV became all consuming with programmes not to be missed for any reason. Meals on laps became favourite, either when watching in the lounge or in individual bedrooms with most having a portable TV. Family banter was fast becoming history.

Before long, most households had acquiesed and bought a PC and the home office was born. The internet had grown immensely in popularity and everybody wanted to be part of the revolution.

The PC became an indispensable appliance. So good for administration, that many found that they were able to work from home, either in their existing roles or by starting web based companies.

With the advent of social networking sites, along with the burgeoning array of games available that could be played on the PC, the home office had become the new family living room. A place for learning, fun, and entertainment.

Once more, families gather together, albeit around computers and share the stories of their day as they play a game, listen to music, or watch a movie. Might now be the perfect time to make the office a little more comfortable and homely? What about a new office desk or workstation? In addition, some new, comfortable chairs would be much appreciated by all, along with a soft sofa on which to lounge.

No longer just a place for hard business, the home office is now the hub of family life.

Decorating Ideas For Family Room

If you have a basement that is just sitting there forgotten, you are missing out on an entire floor of space that could provide that extra bit of room you have been looking for. Of course, getting the basement in shape for family use may take a bit of work, but the results will be well worth it.

There are many ideas for making your basement a part of your home and creating cozy little getaways. The first thing you will need to do is decide what work needs to be done in order to get your basement ready for use. In some cases, you may need to completely remodel. You will want to be sure that existing walls are finished and you may even want to build new walls in order to divide the basement into separate rooms. You will also want to be sure that you have adequate light in the basement, especially since this is the place in your home with the least amount of windows. Once you have remodeled your basement to meet your needs and to ensure that it is a safe place for family members, you will want to move on to the decorating.

Decide just what you want to use the basement for. Here are some ideas:

Home Theater or TV Room - the basement is the perfect place for a home theater because of the absence of windows.

Game Room - If you have always wanted a pool table or other games that take up too much space, a refurbished basement is the perfect place to create a game room where family and friends will spend many hours shooting pool, throwing darts, and other activities.

Hobby Room - If someone in your family is interested in toy trains, the basement provides an excellent place to create their very own railroad line. Space can also be set up for other hobbies such as building model cars or planes.

Extra Bedrooms - You can even create extra bedrooms in your basement. Maybe you have a teen that is tottering on the edge of being his/her own person, yet still needs the protection a parent provides. A basement bedroom will allow the privacy needed for your teen while still keeping him/her within the family fold.

Basement Lighting - Since the basement is the area of your home that receives the least amount of natural light, it is very important that the lighting be adequate for safety. Here are a few lighting ideas for basements:

Globe Lights - These lights are wonderful for creating a soft and romantic atmosphere.

Onyx Lights - These lights offer soft, gentle lighting and will work well in your home theater.

String Lights - String lights are a perfect way to create a colorful light display. Use your imagination and string the lights to create whatever atmosphere you after. Colorful Christmas lights can be strung in the basement any time of year for an added dash of color.

Lava Lamps - These lamps can be used to give your basement a psychedelic feel. These are a great idea for a teen's bedroom or family game room.

Brighten your basement with some area rugs. Think bold and colorful. A fun red area rug would be stunning or go with a modern geometric area rug instead. The choice of rugs is unlimited.

Family Rooms

Having a welcoming and inviting living room will be very beneficial for your house. As a matter of fact, the essence of the living room is as the functional room such as for welcoming guests or for getting together with family. As one of the ideas to create an inviting living room, you can make a good furniture placement.

If you plan to rearrange the placement of the furniture in your living room, you don't need to be confused. You only need the right tools and you can arrange your room as what you prefer. Your living room will be lovable for your family and friends to live in.

The first thing you have to do is to prepare all the things you will need such as tape measure, scissors, graph paper, and also pencil to plot the arrangement of your furniture. It allows you to explore some different options of furniture placement without moving the real piece of furniture in preferred configurations. In addition, you will take effective time for the real placement.

As the first step, you could measure the living room and then draw it on the paper with the right scale. Also, you have to measure and draw the fixed furniture in that room such as the doors, the windows, fireplace, and also cabinetry. After that, you could measure the furniture which you are going to use for that room and then draw it on a separate sheet. Draw that piece of furniture and get the visual finished room.

In addition, another important thing to draw is the electronic device you use for that room. You could also draw the data and electrical outlets so that you will find it easy for the real replacement.

The next thing to do is to make all that arrangement in real. You have to determine the focal point to put the furniture around. You have to start it from the largest piece such as your sofa and any other possible seating to make sure that it has no obstacle view to the focal point in that living room. If all the large piece of furniture has already been handled, you can care for the small ones. Rearranging the furniture in such a way can bring your room a new look.

Another important thing you have to keep in mind is that it is better to leave 18-22 inches between the sofa and tables. In order to help you measure the distance of the furniture effectively, you could use laser shaft alignment [http://lasermeasuringequipment.org/laser-shaft-alignment/]. Instead, you could also use laser measuring device [http://lasermeasuringequipment.org/].

Christmas Decorating Ideas

Decorating Ideas For Family Room

For most people, Christmas decorating ideas are normally limited to decorating the tree and the living room and making the dining-room table look beautiful. But, what if you are throwing a Christmas party or have invited friends or family to stay for the holidays? Then, extending your decorations to include the rest of the house is well worth the extra effort.

The hall is where we welcome guests, and the place where people tend to gather together during big parties, which makes it the obvious area for additional decorative displays. You don't have to put together anything especially lavish or elaborate - just a few simple touches to create the right atmosphere. Arrange fat church candles of varying heights in a large shallow dish on hall table and surround the candles with foliage and berries to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. A nice touch would be to hang a big bunch of mistletoe close to the front door and decorate pictures and mirrors with swags of greenery.

Small bowls of wrapped candies, fruits, and seasonal nuts not only look beautiful but are useful to have on hand for impromptu gatherings. Likewise, pots of strongly scented winter flower bulbs, such as hyacinths and cyclamen, placed on landings, windowsills, and even in the bathroom, will give your home an air of being all dressed up for visitors.

The kitchen is often overlooked when it comes to Christmas decorating ideas, and yet, when there is a party in the house, this rooms seems to be attracting your guests like a magnet. However, kitchen decorations should be kept to a minimum because of its more functional role. You can simply suspend colored baubles from the hooks on a dresser, which will look pretty and add to the sense of the occasion.

If your kitchen is part of the open-plan space, then you can extend your living-room decorations to the kitchen area by stringing a few twinkling lights along the shelves or put a big vase of sculptural twigs hung with glossy red berries.

Another way to spruce up the spare room is to use decorations similar to those on the Christmas tree to create a small garland for the mantelpiece, to tie to the handle of the closet, or hang above the mirror.

To decorate dressing table and bedside tables, put aromatically scented candles surrounded by circlets of evergreen foliage on them. Handmade organza Christmas stockings filled with spicy potpourri would be a great alternative to lavender pillows and small dishes of traditional potpourri.

Among Christmas decorating ideas for your bedroom, adorning the mantelpiece, if you have one, would be the obvious choice. All that you need is some scented candles that you can mix with selected Christmas decorations to remind you first thing in the morning that Christmas is on its way.

To help your family get the most enjoyment from this room it's a good idea to have family members contribute a wish list of features that they would most like to see in their family room. A family room is functional but a fun place for children and adults alike. Creating that balance an uncluttered look is difficult but workable. Get everyone involved and most importantly be creative. Remember this room is a great place to hang out, enjoy some pop corn and reminisce.

When it comes to decorating the walls of the family room there are no set rules. Family room layouts vary from home to home and also from region to region. Some designs have kitchens or open spaces that flow right into the family room. Some home owners are fortunate enough to have a fireplace as the focal point of the room. Some family rooms have entire walls filled with built in cabinets that house the entertainment center for the room. It is likely that there will be at least one wall that you need to decorate. You need to gather the entire family together and come up with a theme that suits all of you best.

The way the economy has been lately most of us are on a strict budget. For an inexpensive idea you can make the theme your family. You can choose pictures of your family in poised or candid shots. They can be blown up to poster size and can be pictured in black and white. Another idea for your theme can be architectural designs or photos of flowers and gardens. With today's technology any digital picture can become a work of art. The most intimidating part of decorating your walls with art is choosing the right frame to compliment both the image and your décor. Often a thin black frame is the most complimentary to both the art work and your décor. Think simple and watch your walls come alive with exuberance.

The family room can tend to have too much energy surrounding it. With wallpaper you can have a calming effect with soft patterns and colors that create an airy feeling and will be indicative for that mood you wish to capture. Another trend seems to be decorating with wall stickers or lettering. Wall décor quotes are a fast and easy way to add that special touch. Personalized lettering transfers your thoughts onto your walls with no mess, sweat or expensive trips to the home supply store.

Wallpaper murals are a quick and affordable way to dress up your walls. They have become very popular because of their classic and trendy styles. They are easy to hang but you must make certain your walls are clean and straight. Most murals come prepasted and will typically include easy to follow instructions to help make your experience a breeze. Stencils can bring out the best features of wall mural and you do not need to be an artist. There are many stencils that are available for decoration that only require a simple rubbing technique and will adhere to your wall easily. Wall murals can complete a decorating theme and compliment accessories and other wall decorations.

Using your imagination and materials that you already have around the house can be an inexpensive way to turn that monotone dull wall into a wall that is filled with your personality. For my own family room this is what happened. I was amazed at my husband's unique display on one of our walls. My husband likes to build and play around with many materials you could say he is a fixer upper. He had so many tools lying all around the garage that we were unable to park are cars inside of it. He realized he had to do something to tidy up and because of this fact his creative energy over flowed. Many of the tools he acquired over the years were antiques and had unique characteristics. He first sketched a design on paper and then transferred his tools to the family room wall. This display has given the wall texture and is a conversation piece to all that view it. This display has succeeded in removing the clutter from the garage and we now have ample parking space and a beautiful wall to show off.

To add some finishing touches to your family room walls decorate with wall mirrors. They bring you both style and function and will add a warmth and beauty to the room. They can make small spaces appear larger and add a brilliance that brightens up the entire room. They are available in many sizes, styles, finishes and materials. With innovative hanging options and frames of all kinds your choices are unlimited. There are mirrors to match anyone's budget and décor. They start under one hundred dollars and you can find mirrors in leather to metal finishes that will match your furniture and accessories.

Flexible lighting is a necessity in a room as multi-functional as the family room is. Most call for a combination of over head wall and table lighting. Lighting will help create the mood you are after. Especially popular for home theatres are wall sconces that provide soft and glowing light. Wall sconces combined with black ceiling tile can resemble the night sky.

There never seems to be adequate storage space for the family room. This room usually has books, games, DVD's computer software and sports equipment that must some how be stowed away when not in use. With the help of wall shelves, built in book shelves and cabinets you can customize the storage space that is needed.

Recently wall tapestries have enjoyed a rise of interest for people looking beyond traditional options for wall decor especially when it comes to decorating the family room. Although there are increasing amounts of contemporary art the traditional designs from the past are the most popular. The main appeal is their connection with history. The range of designs and themes is vast and include subject matter that is so diverse it can fit easily into anyone's own personal style. Every tapestry because of the weaving process is a unique work of art unlike any other. With the ever growing range of options for the consumer the choices has never been better.

The many examples of wall décor for the family room that I have talked about today leads to this one conclusion. With your specific interests and inspirational guidance this will allow you to have wonderful wall decorating ideas that you will be proud of.

Family Rooms

The family room is a multifunctional room that provides space for the family to lounge in front of the TV, or a place where you can hide and read a great novel, a spot where your children can make a mess with their toys while you entertain company in other areas of the house, where adults can play poker, ping, pong, darts, pool, and other games, and the best place to have a party so other areas of your home don't get dirty or cluttered with trash and people.

Comfort should be the highest priority when it comes to decorating your family room. Make sure that you get a sofa that's great for curling up on and reading a book or doing homework, or that easily seats three adults for entertaining. Sectionals seem to be the best bet as they offer the best of both worlds when it comes to form and function. Leather sofas and chairs are trendy and very easy to maintain, but make sure that you choose a sofa in a darker color as opposed to white, as we all know what happens whenever a glass of red wine gets spilled on anything white

Area rugs will be able to pull the family room together and also give a defined space and gives the area a more general coziness. A rug can make a disjointed room turn into a beautiful room. The area rug can also be your focal point since such a room may often times lack one and can provide color and patterns to the backdrop of pieces of furniture that can otherwise be considered unexciting and plain.

Splashes of color can also transform your room and pull it neatly together. It's okay to throw bright colors in a family room. The combinations of blue and green, orange and red, are strong bold colors that will be sure to bring a smile to your face. Reds and oranges are energetic colors while the blues and greens will be more calming.

When you are decorating this room remember that it can become a definite magnet for clutter. Books, DVDs, VHS tapes, magazines, and scattered toys will end up being this room's best friend and worst enemy. Instead of using open shelves, try closed cupboards with doors. On the shelves inside label several different baskets and boxes so that everyone knows where things go when they are put back. With this in mind, you can also add storage trunks. They can double as a coffee table and a place to store some more stuff such as board games or coloring books and crayons.

Remember that the point of this room is comfort. So make sure that you create a room that is cozy and practical so that no one gets nervous about spilling a drink or having sticky fingers. Make sure that you have added entertainment to keep the room lively. This includes more than just the TV and computer. Have family games, photo albums, arts and crafts, and jigsaw puzzles to create a warm and inviting place to play or relax.

Interior Design has never been so easy with these oriental area rugs.

Cupcake decoration is an easy and fun task to do. You can use as many shapes and designs on your cupcakes as you wish. Snowman, Santa Claus, elf shapes and fairies would make perfect Christmas cupcake decorations. A theme makes it easy to choose the shapes and colors to work with. You will use sugar icing to make your cake decorations. Follow the given sugar icing recipe carefully in order to get the consistency right. It should be creamy and not runny, in order to stick to the cake. Alternatively, you can buy pre-made sugar icing from department stores.

Equipment you will need to make your work perfect includes a frosting spatula, icing bags, icing tips, toothpicks and foil or greaseproof paper. A frosting spatula ensures that the icing is spread evenly. Buy icing tips of different shapes - stars, leaves, shells, roses, v-shaped, round-shaped ones and any other shapes you can find.

Shape the different decorations using the sugar icing mixture on the foil. This is where the icing tips come in handy. Petal shaped tips will help you shape the flower and bows; round ones will help you write letters and numbers. Let the decorations dry then paint on any additional details you want to feature in your decorations. Toothpicks work well for this. Your cupcake decorations are now ready to use!

Spread the icing or frosting on the cakes. You can also use pre-made fondant. This does not have to be in plain color. Add food coloring to give it some color before spreading it on the cupcakes. Then take your decorations and stick them onto the icing. They stick very well on butter cream icing. Now your cupcakes are ready to show off to your friends!

As you perfect the art of cake decoration, you can slowly incorporate more complex shapes, such as fondant flowers - daffodils, mushrooms and sunflowers among others. Some more cupcake decorating ideas you can try out include falling flowers where you shape a stalk and petal and place it on the cupcake top, so that the stalk lies on the icing and the petal falls to the side. Cover the top with more petals in different colors. You can also paint the faces and names of your guests on the cupcakes. Present each guest with the corresponding cupcake that has their name and face! They will feel special.

Read through Interior Decorating Ideas For the New Year additional

New Year is my favorite holiday, I love the excitement of a new beginning. I look at every day as a new day to start over, but there's just something about a new year. It gives me permission to wipe the slate clean and stop beating myself up about the things I didn't get done.

But instead of making resolution, which we always do beat ourselves up with when we break, lets make some decorating decisions instead to work on decorating your home throughout the year.

Decision #1 - Make a Decorating Plan. This year think about the decorating projects you would like to accomplish and put them down on paper. Remember to be realistic and consider your budget and time. Write out each step you need to do, how long it will take, how much it will cost, when you plan on starting and when you want to finish. Then do not shop without your plan. Just like when we grocery shop without a list, we over buy, over spend and sometimes forget the items we need.

With money tight for everyone, look at other options to get the work done without hiring someone to do it. Can you barter with someone? I know someone who has a drapery workroom and I'd like to have new panels for my hall bath. She wants to learn more about wholesale buying. So we're going to barter our time. Can a friend help you? I have a friend that loves to paint, she finds it relaxing, not me. So we're going to make a fun day of it and paint my hall bath. Do you have anything that you can sell or consign that's just been taking up space in your closets? I have brand new, never used skis, boots and poles which have been in my hall closet for over 10 years. It's time for someone else to enjoy them and I'm going to use the money to replace the faucet in my hall bath. Can you guess that one thing on my decorating plan is to redo my hall bath?

Decision # 2 - Don't Just Fill a Space Because It Is Empty. Just because a room is empty doesn't mean you have to run out and buy furniture to fill it. Wait until you find that perfect piece you love, that's in your plan and within your budget. Don't buy any piece of art unless it's something you'll enjoy looking at every time you walk by. You'll be lying to yourself if you say that it is only temporary until you find something better. I've found that those temporary time frames turn into years. Believe me, I've done it myself.

Instead when you find that perfect piece, but it's not in your budget yet, take a picture of it and paste it into your decorating plan. Then move it to the top of your list and make it your next purchase when you can.

Decision # 3 - Don't worry about the Latest Trends. Just as in clothing, what's in today will be out tomorrow; there are new trends and colors every year. Why? Because what would be your incentive to buy another navy blue pillow when you already have five. But what if the new blue was cobalt? Well, you might change out the pillows, because color makes the world go "Buy."

It's fun to stay up on the trends and new colors, but not necessary that we re-decorate every time something new comes out, and who can afford to do that? Don't agonize about what's in and what's new, because you'll never get your decorating done. Instead, stay focused and incorporate a few new colors and trendy items with your accessories.

Decision # 4 - Decorate Your Home With What You Love. Don't let friends, family, or the decorating industry force you into anything that is just not you. You'll be living in your home not the sales person, your sister or your girlfriend. Just because they happen to love country with ruffles, bunnies and bows doesn't mean you have to live with it to. As a Designer, I love to decorate with every theme and color scheme, but it doesn't mean that's how I would decorate my home. One of my girlfriends loves yellow and it's her main wall color. I also love yellow but it's not in my home. I'm a purple gal so you'll find it in every room.

I also want you to make a decision that if there is something in your home that you really hate, something that every time you walk past it you focus on it, try and do something about it. Maybe you can't replace the tile in your entry, so buy an inexpensive area rug to cover it up. You can't stand the fabric on a chair, so sell it and buy a new one with the money you make. Life's too short to live with something you hate.

Decision # 5 - Redesign with what you already own. I've talked a lot about redesign over the years, so you know I really believe it in. It's amazing how you can transform your home with what you already own. It will give you a sense of accomplishment and new appreciation for what you have. By using what you have to the best advantage, will allow you to enjoy your home now. It will help you stick to your plan to have the home you want in the long run.

To a Happy, Healthy, Safe and Prosperous New Year.

Read through Design Tips for a Spacious and Family-friendly Living Room far more

The living room is such an important room of the house. This is where you receive your guests. These are some of my ideas for decorating the living room. In fact, the trend these days is to have a large room where all the different common activities like dining, working, playing, studying, TV watching can be done altogether. The idea is to get premium use of space available. Ideally, these different functions can be separated by dividing the areas with cabinets, shelves or partition. Another trick is to change the floor covering too. The living room is a busy area so it is crucial to allow wide pathways for easy entry into and out of the living room. You want to be practical too. Get a carpet that is easy to clean and maintain. I recommend getting leather sofa sets as they are easy to maintain.

You want furniture to be flexible and multi functional too. Look for tables with storage space. Instead of leaving your keys, wallets and mobile phone on the table you can keep them in the drawers. It prevents cluttering. Look for sofas and couches which have drawers to keep your stuff. Choose storage chests that can used as tables, storage or seating. Save space by using storage units that come with sliding doors. Storage units with doors or drawers require space when you open the cabinet doors or drawers. Create the illusion of space by getting small furniture which makes the living room much bigger. Put decorative items such as books on open storage shelves, glass cabinets and tables. Make sure they are arranged in a neat and clean manner as they are visible. Non decorative and unsightly items should be stored in closed storage units like cupboard and chest with drawers. Find light and versatile furniture which is easy to move around.

For example, consider using steel and plastic chairs instead of wooden chairs. Look out for stools which are smaller and are stackable too. Are children playing and also studying in this area? Get them open storage boxes and baskets to keep their toys and books in them. What else can you do to make cleaning of the living room easier? Simple, throw away all your junk and rubbish. Throw away old and unwanted newspaper, toys and books.

Use light colors for painting of your walls. This makes the room look bigger too.You want proportion in your layout of furniture. You want to be able to entertain as many guests as possible. Create several seating areas by gathering a few chairs and a small table for each seating area. Small groups of people can gather for casual chit chat and small talk. If there is only one sofa suite then only one person is the focus of attention and less participation is possible among the guests. Make sure the coffee table is within easy reach of the armchairs and sofas. Do put end tables and side tables next to chairs as well. Guests can reach their food and drinks, reading material and perhaps TV remote controls. You don't have to incur huge expenditure to update your living room decor. One simple trick is to re-arrange your furniture and presto, it seems like a new living room. Painting fresh coat of paint is relatively cheap too.

How to keep organized and stylish in a small space.

Moving into a dorm and trying to figure out where you will put everything? Are you wondering how you can give such a small space plenty of style? Here are plenty of ideas for storage and style, especially if you are a college student on a budget.

The most important thing about living in a dorm is keeping organized. Since you may be sharing a dorm with a room mate, it will be important to keep your things separated and in places where they are easy to locate. Plus, you will want to respect the fact that it is their space too, and will want to keep it free of clutter. (Lets just hope your room mate keeps that in mind as well!) College life is quite an adjustment, and having a cluttered space will make it hard to concentrate, and could make you late if you are spending your time frantically searching for things that you need.

Here are some organization ideas;

Closet organizing- As small as this space is, be smart about utilizing all the space that you possibly can. Use closet organizing systems which hang up, and have separated spaces for storage. Some systems have a place for hanging your clothes, and shelves, shoe racks, or totes for added storage.

The space under your bed- Using this space can provide a lot of storage. Using totes, plastic bins with lids, or storage that is specifically designed for storing shoes under your bed. Also, a great idea for added space under your bed are bed lifts. These are blocks that go under each leg of your bed and keep them in place securely. They will raise your bed so that you can put larger items underneath. Having this extra space would really be nice for stackable storage.

The walls- Since the space is limited by the dimensions of the room, use the space that you have on the walls! Adding shelves, cubes, or CD racks which hang securely to the wall, will really provide much needed space for CD's, books, or photos. Also, a cork board or calender is nice for reminders or photos. Use photo frames with hooks and a shelf for added storage, and a place for your keys.

Study space- The study space is a very important area to keep organized. Most likely, you will have a small desk. Try having stackable storage underneath the desk, (leaving room for the chair to be tucked in) to keep papers, various computer supplies, or office supplies. Remember, again, use the wall! The space on the wall above the desk can be used to hang cubes or shelves.

Of course it isn't just about organization, but also style! Many types of bedding come in bags which include all the pieces that you will need. Once you choose the colors or patterns that you will want for your room, you can add throw pillows or window treatments to coordinate. Also, using a bed skirt is a great idea to hide the extra storage area underneath your bed.

One thing to keep in mind when you decorate your dorm, is to include things that add personal touches that remind you of home. Since your dorm is really your home away from home, try placing pictures with decorative frames on the wall, or wall decals with a favorite inspirational quote. If you find that you are running out of room for all of your photos, a digital photo frame is a great way to have many photos in one place. Try adding a cork board to pin up other memorabilia such as cards, photos, or messages.

Try to find a nice rug that will coordinate with your decor to add color and style. This will also provide a warm comfortable area to walk on.

Even if your space is small, there are many ways to add space and style! Using these tips will help eliminate clutter and give you a space with your own style. The last thing you need is a cluttered space that is too overwhelming to keep your concentration, and make you late for class because you are too busy searching your room for the things you need to start your day. Surround yourself with memories of home too so that you can have familiar things around to make yourself comfortable!

Understand Bar Decorating Ideas - Tips for How to Decorate Your Home Bar far more

Having a home bar can be a lot of fun. It is a wonderful place to hang out with your family or to have friends over to relax and enjoy a couple of cocktails. To make the most of your home bar you should take the time to decorate it in a way that really reflects your personality while at the same time creating a fun, relaxing environment. Check out these bar decorating ideas to get some ideas of how to decorate your home bar.

Before you even think about starting to decorate, you should take a minute to consider how you plan to use the space and what your own personal style is. Are you looking for a sports bar feeling? Or perhaps you are more into a classier, more upscale feeling. Think through bars, restaurants and clubs that you have been to and see which ones stand out in your mind. Once you have figured out the style that you like decorating your bar is going to become a whole lot easier.

One of the most important parts of a home bar is the seating. You want everyone to be comfortable and relaxed. Bar stools at the bar are great, but you should also consider adding some extra seating away from the bar if space permits. Lounge chairs covered in fun zebra print or bright colored fabrics can lend an eclectic feeling to your room. For a sports bar, a large, comfy sofa with plenty of room is a nice option to provide some extra seating. When choosing your seating for your home bar try to find pieces that are relatively easy to get up from. There is nothing worse than having a drink or two and finding that you have sunken down into an overstuffed couch so far that it is hard to get out!

The artwork that you choose for the walls will also depend greatly on the atmosphere you are trying to create. Vintage posters or prints framed in nice frames can be a classy, timeless way to decorate the walls. If the space is on the smaller side consider hanging a few mirrors around to visually increase the size of the space. Always try to hang artwork or mirrors about at eye level for the average person to avoid having it look like it is too high or too low.

Finally, consider getting a neon sign or two to hang. Neon beer signs [http://www.neonbeersignsforsale.info] are relatively cheap to purchase and they create the feeling of a "real" bar atmosphere more than any other accessory you can add. Not only that, but they provide great low level mood lighting that really helps to keep your bar cozy and inviting. Examine Choosing the Right Flooring - Comfort and Styles a lot more

Comfort and style is always foremost in our minds when we are considering what type of flooring is best for our homes. Choosing flooring that will not only look attractive to visitors but will also give us the comfort that we desire, with easy cleaning solutions for the family.

Many people are now choosing wood flooring; laminate flooring, oak flooring, and quick-step laminate flooring over carpet for most rooms in their home. With any of these types of solutions, you can accent with area rugs to enhance the beauty of the flooring and of course the room.

Making a decision on which type of flooring is best for your home, you should first look at the room and decide how much traffic the room will have over the course of a day. If you start with your entry, which will be receiving more traffic than the bedrooms, you will want flooring that is easy to care for such as laminate flooring. The best would of course be the quick-step laminate flooring. Laminate flooring can look exactly like wood flooring or even oak flooring without all the care that you need. For high traffic areas, laminate flooring or quick-step laminate flooring would be the best choice.

For other rooms in your home, such as guest bathrooms, guest bedrooms, dens, libraries, or other rooms that are not used as often you can choose from carpet, wood flooring, and oak flooring. These types of flooring if not used as often can be cleaned quickly by just vacuuming or using a dust mop, unless the room has been used recently. Then a thorough cleaning will be necessary.

Wood flooring or oak flooring can add elegance to a dining room but remember, if the family eats in the dining room all the time, you will have to worry about scuff marks on the floor and more clean up. Placing an area rug under the dining room table with save your wood flooring and give you less clean up in the long run.

Most people really enjoy carpet for the bedrooms and for rooms such as the family room. Carpet gives your feet a comfortable and soft cushion for those lazy days around the house and of course, first thing in the morning when you are waking up.

However, style and comfort is in the eye of the beholder and you are the one that will ultimately be enjoying the flooring you choose. Choose which one fits your own style and needs and you will be happy with your choice.

Examine Decorating Trends - Living and Family Rooms additional

Living rooms and family rooms are where most families convene and spend quality time with one another. A living room or family room should therefore be approachable, comfortable and family friendly. You want to stay away from a too formal or too stiff look. Your family room isn't a formal parlor after all; it's not a place to gather and sip tea from dainty cups. Here are some great decorating ideas to give your family or living room an updated look.

For a basement family room, bright, bold colors make and impact. Basements tend to be somewhat dark and dreary, so you should aim to spruce things up with vibrant highlights. Get a fresh start by covering those otherwise bland walls with some interesting textures. Install corrugated metal panels on one wall to give the room a space-age modern feel. Place your TV and TV unit against it and add some shelving to display collectibles or knick knacks. This will really give your room an interesting focal point.

Take advantage of those exposed pipes and open ceiling rafters to make your basement bunker look like an open air loft. You can easily purchase strips of plywood, finish them with some paint and cover loose ends on the ceiling or walls. Throw in some big screws and over sized washers to complete the look, adding a light hint of industrial chic.

Paint those concrete floors bright colors. Try a celadon green or a combination of metallic greys. Paint the walls using special magnetic paint so that you can put magnets on your walls. Kids will love it. You can even create painted fabric curtains or dividers to separate a family room from a work space.

Add some color with some long draping curtains. Burlap, the stuff potato sacks are made of, is really quite cheap and it adds some great texture to any room. You can paint pictures or designs right on the burlap; ask your kids to help. You can experiment with stamps and stencils. Try painting squares on each hanging edge.

Group your furniture to create different spaces. You may want to have different areas for playing games and watching TV or surfing on the internet for instance. Go to yard sales and garage sales to pick up funky old vases and jars, or use what you have. Paint them bright yellow or gold and add some metallic highlights with a special paint pen. Add fresh flowers to complete the look.

You can easily make your very own fashionable pillow covers and cases. Add bright color highlights or metallic squares to liven things up. Choose colors that match your carpet or rug, to make the design more coherent.

Remember to use your imagination. Decorating your living room or family doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune. Using cheap materials like plywood, paint and garage sale finds to make your room eclectic and welcoming. Make your own curtains and pillow cushions. It's simpler than you may think. Also, ask the kids to join in the fun. Make it a family affair.

Understand Mirror Accents - 10 Great Ideas for Decorating With Mirrors more

Mirrors are a great design accessory, and when strategically placed, they can liven up a room, making it appear brighter and larger. It is use since old times to enhance the design of a room. Designers have been putting mirrors on furniture for over 100 years.

Here are some ideas to take advantage of the mirror and add light to your room, create depth or highlight an interesting focal point:

1. Make the room brighter. Use them to enhance the natural light in a room by hanging one across from a window so it reflects the landscape outside. They're a great alternative to a traditional painting or print. Situate the mirror so it doesn't cause glare. Mirrors can be problematic if they're placed across from a window with a western or southern exposure.

2. Multiply the wide of the space. Mirror a long wall in a skinny space to double the visual width of the room. This is a great trick for halls, entryways, narrow dining rooms, gym rooms and master bathrooms.

3. Coordinate the color schemes. That is the style, size, and design of your mirror should match or enhance the color scheme in your home. For example, if it's rustic, choose a mirror that's framed in hardwood with nice carvings. Something eclectic is a nice touch too. Bronze-tinted mirrors make people look younger and healthier.

4. Brighten up your entry. Mirrors placed in a foyer or entryway is a welcomed sight for guests. They reflect light and open up a dark entry and give a place for guests to check themselves while entering your home.

5. Place a lighting fixture to bathe your mirror with soft light. This is a very effective way to make your foyer soft and homey not to mention extremely relaxing especially for family members and guests who want to enter to a relaxing room after a particularly stressful day.

6. Hunt for your unique pieces. You don't need to spend a lot of money in your mirror, or buy it straight from the furniture store. Mirrors come in all shapes, styles and sizes and can be found anywhere from discount retailers and garage sales to flea markets. They should be chosen based on the size and decor of your room.

7. Full-length mirrors make a room seem larger. A full-mirrored wall will optically expand and add glamour to a room. Consider adding a folding screen of mirrored panels to the corner of a room to add light and dimension. Just glue molding around each full-length mirror and secure each side with hinges.

8. A collection of small mirrors can add great interest to a wall. When using a group of mirrors, concentrate on choosing interesting frames in a variety of shapes and sizes. To create a cohesive grouping, you may want to consider using mirrors with the same or similarly colored frames. To arrange a group, hang the largest mirror first, and then add a smaller one of similar shape. Finish with yet another small mirror in a different shape. Space them all evenly on the wall.

9. Place a mirror over the fireplace. For most home's the fireplace is already the focal point of the room in which it resides. Add more emphasis to the fireplace by placing a beautifully framed mirror above the mantel. This will enlarge the room, and add a reflective surface to the décor you place on the mantle. From candle sticks to seasonal décor, a fireplace begs for a gorgeous mirror to adorn it.

10. Prepare your handyman tools. You will need a few basic tools to hang mirrors: hammer, small nails, a measuring tape and perhaps some way of checking to see that the mirrors are level. Hardware stores and home-decorating stores now carry a wide variety of hanging clips, wire and other devices that are perfecting for locating mirrors in the room. (Don't hesitate to place mirrors in places other than on the walls. Some mirrors will work very well on a stand if the placement is right.

Home Decor - Shabby Chic Decorating Ideas for the Kitchen to Use Today!

Decorating Ideas For Family Room

Are you looking for shabby chic decorating ideas to use in your kitchen? Here are several easy and fun ideas that I have personally used to incorporate shabby chic decorating in that all-important room of the house--the kitchen.

Start by taking an inventory of keepsakes and newer knick knacks that you like and could be used as shabby chic home décor in the kitchen. Keepsakes that I used in my shabby chic kitchen were an old wooden recipe box, vintage measuring spoons, old tin cookie cutters, a miniature iron, an antique compact, a ceramic rose-design dish with lid and serving spoon, a vintage tea set and a couple of small photos in antique frames.

Decide where you will display your items. I used a tall, wrought iron corner shelf with four shelves to display the above items. On each shelf I draped a small lace doily that hung over the edge of the shelf. What I liked best about this collection was that it was tucked into a corner and out of the flow of traffic, and at the same time it was very attractive. It was a wonderful way to display keepsakes instead of having them packed away in a box.

Shabby chic home décor such as vintage bowls, trays and vases can be displayed on countertops and then brought to life by actually using them. Your family and guests will enjoy the uniqueness of their past and also their present beauty. For most family holiday dinners I bring out the family heirloom serving bowls and trays. What a great way to remember those good 'ole days!

Kitchen curtains are an excellent way to add that shabby chic look with a unique twist. In place of the traditional café curtains, use a valance scarf made out of beautiful shabby chic cotton. Instead of draping the valance scarf over a rod use a scroll-type hook, drape the scarf as usual over the hooks and then thread the scarf through each hook from the back to create a "puffy circular" look to each corner of the window. This is very attractive and unique plus holds the scarf in place. The sides of the scarf hang about half-way down the window for added interest.

A wrought iron chandelier with a distressed finish is a great shabby chic home decor addition over the dining table in the kitchen. It adds flair to the shabby chic décor without being too formal.

Remember, shabby chic decorating can be used in any room of the house. Let your imagination and ingenuity flow to create a beautiful and unique shabby chic look to your home.

Once you have your sunroom completed, then the hard part of the job starts the decorating. You may have some sunroom decorating ideas in mind but once you start looking in magazines for sample colors and types of furniture, you will realize that the decisions are not as easy as you first thought. If you don't put a lot of thought into your decorating you may not be able to achieve the exact effect you want the sunroom to have.

If the sunroom is straight across the back or the front of the house, then you can make it look like a patio in the way you choose the decorations. A sunroom with an interior done in wood is well suited to rattan furniture or even wicker so that it gives the room an outdoorsy look. You can choose vintage cushions and pillows to give your sunroom a rustic or country feel. Showpieces placed on shelves, plants in standing and hanging planters and colourful mats on the floor will all add to the ambiance of the sunroom being a place where you can relax.

There is a range of designs in wall coverings that will really enhance the sunroom as well. You can have the interior done totally in wood with pine walls and ceilings or you can have drywall that you paint in bright colors. Wallpaper in floral or other designs will give a nice cozy feel to the room. You may like the paintable wallpaper which shows out a design through the color you choose or one that has mosaics or tiles on the wall.

The way in which you decorate the sunroom also depends on the way in which you intend to use the room. You may want to have small tables and chairs where you can sit and enjoy your coffee in the morning with the newspaper or it may be a place where you want to have comfortable soft chairs for entertaining guests. It may even be a place where you want to work out and so you will need a place for your exercise equipment.

Soft light colors in the sunroom will give it a relaxed atmosphere. Large windows to let the sun in should also have appropriate window coverings so that the UV rays won't cause your furniture or pillow coverings to fade. These lighter colors will give the room the appearance of being larger than it actually is. Coordinate the colors of the blinds and the cushions with that of the walls and the floor mats. If the sunroom is attached to the house, you should also think about coordinating the decor with that of the rest of your house so that all the rooms seem to have the same background.

Whether you have a small or large sunroom, you need to place the furniture so that there is plenty of room to move about. If the door to your home is in the middle of the room arrange the furniture at both ends so that you won't block the access to this door. Make sure that when you are seated you won't have to stand to let someone else in or out.

A chat room is a place online that essentially allows people to carry on a conversation, in a group, through typing. The minute you hit 'enter,' your message is seen by everyone that is logged in to the room. While these can be great places to find intriguing conversation, they also pose some very real risks, for both adults and children alike. When thinking Internet safety, it is also important to consider chat room safety for the whole family.

Before you begin chatting away, you and your family should keep a few things in mind. Since most chat rooms are open to anyone, there is usually no way to verify the identity of the person you're talking with. And because the discussion is public, anything that is said can be read by everyone present, or copied and posted elsewhere. Most chat services do offer an option for a private chat. Although this can be great for adults, or for two children that are already friends, it can also be where perpetrators are lurking to have inappropriate conversations with unsuspecting children.

One way to keep your family safe in chat rooms is to restrict the use to paid-only services. Often, if someone with ulterior motives is required to enter a valid credit or debit card number, it discourages them from joining. In addition, mandatory identification verification can make it much easier for administrators and law enforcement officials to track abusers if necessary. Talk candidly with your family about smart chat room behavior, and in turn, listen to what they have to say.

When enrolling in a chat service, whether paid or free, choose a screen name that is not easily gender identified. Choosing a gender-neutral name can discourage perpetrators because they are unsure of who they are dealing with. Also, don't list your age. If your chat service asks you to create a profile, only enter a minimal amount of information, and nothing that will indicate your age or gender. If you are in a chat room and you witness anything that you feel is not appropriate, report it immediately to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's CyberTip Line.

Avoid posting pictures of yourself and your family in chat sessions or online profiles. When someone asks what you are doing, do not divulge your daily routine to them. With ISP addresses widely available, it is easy for online perpetrators to learn your location; if they have your daily routine committed to memory it is easier for them to victimize you and your family.

Don't open any links that you are given during a chat session. Most often, especially if you are chatting with friends you know very well, these links will lead to harmless YouTube videos. If you're dealing with someone you just met though, you may be given a link to a pornographic website or a virus that will infect your computer.

Last but certainly not least, don't forget to pay attention to instant messenger services as well; often, private chat sessions can spill over in to this more immediate form of communication. What's worse, most cell phones now offer instant messenger through your standard cell phone agreement, and kids are savvy to that.

Overall, your family is relatively safe in Internet chat sites. Although the television would lead you to believe that there are millions of children being exploited due to chat rooms and social networking sites, the reality is, the percentage is very low. Be vigilant in monitoring what is going on inside your family computer, and keep open the lines of communication with your children. If you really listen to what they are saying, you will find that they give you great insight into their online lives. These bits of information can be used later on to start conversations with your family about chat room safety.
