Read through Interior Decorating Ideas For the New Year additional

New Year is my favorite holiday, I love the excitement of a new beginning. I look at every day as a new day to start over, but there's just something about a new year. It gives me permission to wipe the slate clean and stop beating myself up about the things I didn't get done.

But instead of making resolution, which we always do beat ourselves up with when we break, lets make some decorating decisions instead to work on decorating your home throughout the year.

Decision #1 - Make a Decorating Plan. This year think about the decorating projects you would like to accomplish and put them down on paper. Remember to be realistic and consider your budget and time. Write out each step you need to do, how long it will take, how much it will cost, when you plan on starting and when you want to finish. Then do not shop without your plan. Just like when we grocery shop without a list, we over buy, over spend and sometimes forget the items we need.

With money tight for everyone, look at other options to get the work done without hiring someone to do it. Can you barter with someone? I know someone who has a drapery workroom and I'd like to have new panels for my hall bath. She wants to learn more about wholesale buying. So we're going to barter our time. Can a friend help you? I have a friend that loves to paint, she finds it relaxing, not me. So we're going to make a fun day of it and paint my hall bath. Do you have anything that you can sell or consign that's just been taking up space in your closets? I have brand new, never used skis, boots and poles which have been in my hall closet for over 10 years. It's time for someone else to enjoy them and I'm going to use the money to replace the faucet in my hall bath. Can you guess that one thing on my decorating plan is to redo my hall bath?

Decision # 2 - Don't Just Fill a Space Because It Is Empty. Just because a room is empty doesn't mean you have to run out and buy furniture to fill it. Wait until you find that perfect piece you love, that's in your plan and within your budget. Don't buy any piece of art unless it's something you'll enjoy looking at every time you walk by. You'll be lying to yourself if you say that it is only temporary until you find something better. I've found that those temporary time frames turn into years. Believe me, I've done it myself.

Instead when you find that perfect piece, but it's not in your budget yet, take a picture of it and paste it into your decorating plan. Then move it to the top of your list and make it your next purchase when you can.

Decision # 3 - Don't worry about the Latest Trends. Just as in clothing, what's in today will be out tomorrow; there are new trends and colors every year. Why? Because what would be your incentive to buy another navy blue pillow when you already have five. But what if the new blue was cobalt? Well, you might change out the pillows, because color makes the world go "Buy."

It's fun to stay up on the trends and new colors, but not necessary that we re-decorate every time something new comes out, and who can afford to do that? Don't agonize about what's in and what's new, because you'll never get your decorating done. Instead, stay focused and incorporate a few new colors and trendy items with your accessories.

Decision # 4 - Decorate Your Home With What You Love. Don't let friends, family, or the decorating industry force you into anything that is just not you. You'll be living in your home not the sales person, your sister or your girlfriend. Just because they happen to love country with ruffles, bunnies and bows doesn't mean you have to live with it to. As a Designer, I love to decorate with every theme and color scheme, but it doesn't mean that's how I would decorate my home. One of my girlfriends loves yellow and it's her main wall color. I also love yellow but it's not in my home. I'm a purple gal so you'll find it in every room.

I also want you to make a decision that if there is something in your home that you really hate, something that every time you walk past it you focus on it, try and do something about it. Maybe you can't replace the tile in your entry, so buy an inexpensive area rug to cover it up. You can't stand the fabric on a chair, so sell it and buy a new one with the money you make. Life's too short to live with something you hate.

Decision # 5 - Redesign with what you already own. I've talked a lot about redesign over the years, so you know I really believe it in. It's amazing how you can transform your home with what you already own. It will give you a sense of accomplishment and new appreciation for what you have. By using what you have to the best advantage, will allow you to enjoy your home now. It will help you stick to your plan to have the home you want in the long run.

To a Happy, Healthy, Safe and Prosperous New Year.

The living room is such an important room of the house. This is where you receive your guests. These are some of my ideas for decorating the living room. In fact, the trend these days is to have a large room where all the different common activities like dining, working, playing, studying, TV watching can be done altogether. The idea is to get premium use of space available. Ideally, these different functions can be separated by dividing the areas with cabinets, shelves or partition. Another trick is to change the floor covering too. The living room is a busy area so it is crucial to allow wide pathways for easy entry into and out of the living room. You want to be practical too. Get a carpet that is easy to clean and maintain. I recommend getting leather sofa sets as they are easy to maintain.

You want furniture to be flexible and multi functional too. Look for tables with storage space. Instead of leaving your keys, wallets and mobile phone on the table you can keep them in the drawers. It prevents cluttering. Look for sofas and couches which have drawers to keep your stuff. Choose storage chests that can used as tables, storage or seating. Save space by using storage units that come with sliding doors. Storage units with doors or drawers require space when you open the cabinet doors or drawers. Create the illusion of space by getting small furniture which makes the living room much bigger. Put decorative items such as books on open storage shelves, glass cabinets and tables. Make sure they are arranged in a neat and clean manner as they are visible. Non decorative and unsightly items should be stored in closed storage units like cupboard and chest with drawers. Find light and versatile furniture which is easy to move around.

For example, consider using steel and plastic chairs instead of wooden chairs. Look out for stools which are smaller and are stackable too. Are children playing and also studying in this area? Get them open storage boxes and baskets to keep their toys and books in them. What else can you do to make cleaning of the living room easier? Simple, throw away all your junk and rubbish. Throw away old and unwanted newspaper, toys and books.

Use light colors for painting of your walls. This makes the room look bigger too.You want proportion in your layout of furniture. You want to be able to entertain as many guests as possible. Create several seating areas by gathering a few chairs and a small table for each seating area. Small groups of people can gather for casual chit chat and small talk. If there is only one sofa suite then only one person is the focus of attention and less participation is possible among the guests. Make sure the coffee table is within easy reach of the armchairs and sofas. Do put end tables and side tables next to chairs as well. Guests can reach their food and drinks, reading material and perhaps TV remote controls. You don't have to incur huge expenditure to update your living room decor. One simple trick is to re-arrange your furniture and presto, it seems like a new living room. Painting fresh coat of paint is relatively cheap too.

How to keep organized and stylish in a small space.

Moving into a dorm and trying to figure out where you will put everything? Are you wondering how you can give such a small space plenty of style? Here are plenty of ideas for storage and style, especially if you are a college student on a budget.

The most important thing about living in a dorm is keeping organized. Since you may be sharing a dorm with a room mate, it will be important to keep your things separated and in places where they are easy to locate. Plus, you will want to respect the fact that it is their space too, and will want to keep it free of clutter. (Lets just hope your room mate keeps that in mind as well!) College life is quite an adjustment, and having a cluttered space will make it hard to concentrate, and could make you late if you are spending your time frantically searching for things that you need.

Here are some organization ideas;

Closet organizing- As small as this space is, be smart about utilizing all the space that you possibly can. Use closet organizing systems which hang up, and have separated spaces for storage. Some systems have a place for hanging your clothes, and shelves, shoe racks, or totes for added storage.

The space under your bed- Using this space can provide a lot of storage. Using totes, plastic bins with lids, or storage that is specifically designed for storing shoes under your bed. Also, a great idea for added space under your bed are bed lifts. These are blocks that go under each leg of your bed and keep them in place securely. They will raise your bed so that you can put larger items underneath. Having this extra space would really be nice for stackable storage.

The walls- Since the space is limited by the dimensions of the room, use the space that you have on the walls! Adding shelves, cubes, or CD racks which hang securely to the wall, will really provide much needed space for CD's, books, or photos. Also, a cork board or calender is nice for reminders or photos. Use photo frames with hooks and a shelf for added storage, and a place for your keys.

Study space- The study space is a very important area to keep organized. Most likely, you will have a small desk. Try having stackable storage underneath the desk, (leaving room for the chair to be tucked in) to keep papers, various computer supplies, or office supplies. Remember, again, use the wall! The space on the wall above the desk can be used to hang cubes or shelves.

Of course it isn't just about organization, but also style! Many types of bedding come in bags which include all the pieces that you will need. Once you choose the colors or patterns that you will want for your room, you can add throw pillows or window treatments to coordinate. Also, using a bed skirt is a great idea to hide the extra storage area underneath your bed.

One thing to keep in mind when you decorate your dorm, is to include things that add personal touches that remind you of home. Since your dorm is really your home away from home, try placing pictures with decorative frames on the wall, or wall decals with a favorite inspirational quote. If you find that you are running out of room for all of your photos, a digital photo frame is a great way to have many photos in one place. Try adding a cork board to pin up other memorabilia such as cards, photos, or messages.

Try to find a nice rug that will coordinate with your decor to add color and style. This will also provide a warm comfortable area to walk on.

Even if your space is small, there are many ways to add space and style! Using these tips will help eliminate clutter and give you a space with your own style. The last thing you need is a cluttered space that is too overwhelming to keep your concentration, and make you late for class because you are too busy searching your room for the things you need to start your day. Surround yourself with memories of home too so that you can have familiar things around to make yourself comfortable!

Understand Bar Decorating Ideas - Tips for How to Decorate Your Home Bar far more

Having a home bar can be a lot of fun. It is a wonderful place to hang out with your family or to have friends over to relax and enjoy a couple of cocktails. To make the most of your home bar you should take the time to decorate it in a way that really reflects your personality while at the same time creating a fun, relaxing environment. Check out these bar decorating ideas to get some ideas of how to decorate your home bar.

Before you even think about starting to decorate, you should take a minute to consider how you plan to use the space and what your own personal style is. Are you looking for a sports bar feeling? Or perhaps you are more into a classier, more upscale feeling. Think through bars, restaurants and clubs that you have been to and see which ones stand out in your mind. Once you have figured out the style that you like decorating your bar is going to become a whole lot easier.

One of the most important parts of a home bar is the seating. You want everyone to be comfortable and relaxed. Bar stools at the bar are great, but you should also consider adding some extra seating away from the bar if space permits. Lounge chairs covered in fun zebra print or bright colored fabrics can lend an eclectic feeling to your room. For a sports bar, a large, comfy sofa with plenty of room is a nice option to provide some extra seating. When choosing your seating for your home bar try to find pieces that are relatively easy to get up from. There is nothing worse than having a drink or two and finding that you have sunken down into an overstuffed couch so far that it is hard to get out!

The artwork that you choose for the walls will also depend greatly on the atmosphere you are trying to create. Vintage posters or prints framed in nice frames can be a classy, timeless way to decorate the walls. If the space is on the smaller side consider hanging a few mirrors around to visually increase the size of the space. Always try to hang artwork or mirrors about at eye level for the average person to avoid having it look like it is too high or too low.

Finally, consider getting a neon sign or two to hang. Neon beer signs [http://www.neonbeersignsforsale.info] are relatively cheap to purchase and they create the feeling of a "real" bar atmosphere more than any other accessory you can add. Not only that, but they provide great low level mood lighting that really helps to keep your bar cozy and inviting. Examine Choosing the Right Flooring - Comfort and Styles a lot more

Comfort and style is always foremost in our minds when we are considering what type of flooring is best for our homes. Choosing flooring that will not only look attractive to visitors but will also give us the comfort that we desire, with easy cleaning solutions for the family.

Many people are now choosing wood flooring; laminate flooring, oak flooring, and quick-step laminate flooring over carpet for most rooms in their home. With any of these types of solutions, you can accent with area rugs to enhance the beauty of the flooring and of course the room.

Making a decision on which type of flooring is best for your home, you should first look at the room and decide how much traffic the room will have over the course of a day. If you start with your entry, which will be receiving more traffic than the bedrooms, you will want flooring that is easy to care for such as laminate flooring. The best would of course be the quick-step laminate flooring. Laminate flooring can look exactly like wood flooring or even oak flooring without all the care that you need. For high traffic areas, laminate flooring or quick-step laminate flooring would be the best choice.

For other rooms in your home, such as guest bathrooms, guest bedrooms, dens, libraries, or other rooms that are not used as often you can choose from carpet, wood flooring, and oak flooring. These types of flooring if not used as often can be cleaned quickly by just vacuuming or using a dust mop, unless the room has been used recently. Then a thorough cleaning will be necessary.

Wood flooring or oak flooring can add elegance to a dining room but remember, if the family eats in the dining room all the time, you will have to worry about scuff marks on the floor and more clean up. Placing an area rug under the dining room table with save your wood flooring and give you less clean up in the long run.

Most people really enjoy carpet for the bedrooms and for rooms such as the family room. Carpet gives your feet a comfortable and soft cushion for those lazy days around the house and of course, first thing in the morning when you are waking up.

However, style and comfort is in the eye of the beholder and you are the one that will ultimately be enjoying the flooring you choose. Choose which one fits your own style and needs and you will be happy with your choice.

Examine Decorating Trends - Living and Family Rooms additional

Living rooms and family rooms are where most families convene and spend quality time with one another. A living room or family room should therefore be approachable, comfortable and family friendly. You want to stay away from a too formal or too stiff look. Your family room isn't a formal parlor after all; it's not a place to gather and sip tea from dainty cups. Here are some great decorating ideas to give your family or living room an updated look.

For a basement family room, bright, bold colors make and impact. Basements tend to be somewhat dark and dreary, so you should aim to spruce things up with vibrant highlights. Get a fresh start by covering those otherwise bland walls with some interesting textures. Install corrugated metal panels on one wall to give the room a space-age modern feel. Place your TV and TV unit against it and add some shelving to display collectibles or knick knacks. This will really give your room an interesting focal point.

Take advantage of those exposed pipes and open ceiling rafters to make your basement bunker look like an open air loft. You can easily purchase strips of plywood, finish them with some paint and cover loose ends on the ceiling or walls. Throw in some big screws and over sized washers to complete the look, adding a light hint of industrial chic.

Paint those concrete floors bright colors. Try a celadon green or a combination of metallic greys. Paint the walls using special magnetic paint so that you can put magnets on your walls. Kids will love it. You can even create painted fabric curtains or dividers to separate a family room from a work space.

Add some color with some long draping curtains. Burlap, the stuff potato sacks are made of, is really quite cheap and it adds some great texture to any room. You can paint pictures or designs right on the burlap; ask your kids to help. You can experiment with stamps and stencils. Try painting squares on each hanging edge.

Group your furniture to create different spaces. You may want to have different areas for playing games and watching TV or surfing on the internet for instance. Go to yard sales and garage sales to pick up funky old vases and jars, or use what you have. Paint them bright yellow or gold and add some metallic highlights with a special paint pen. Add fresh flowers to complete the look.

You can easily make your very own fashionable pillow covers and cases. Add bright color highlights or metallic squares to liven things up. Choose colors that match your carpet or rug, to make the design more coherent.

Remember to use your imagination. Decorating your living room or family doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune. Using cheap materials like plywood, paint and garage sale finds to make your room eclectic and welcoming. Make your own curtains and pillow cushions. It's simpler than you may think. Also, ask the kids to join in the fun. Make it a family affair.

Understand Mirror Accents - 10 Great Ideas for Decorating With Mirrors more

Mirrors are a great design accessory, and when strategically placed, they can liven up a room, making it appear brighter and larger. It is use since old times to enhance the design of a room. Designers have been putting mirrors on furniture for over 100 years.

Here are some ideas to take advantage of the mirror and add light to your room, create depth or highlight an interesting focal point:

1. Make the room brighter. Use them to enhance the natural light in a room by hanging one across from a window so it reflects the landscape outside. They're a great alternative to a traditional painting or print. Situate the mirror so it doesn't cause glare. Mirrors can be problematic if they're placed across from a window with a western or southern exposure.

2. Multiply the wide of the space. Mirror a long wall in a skinny space to double the visual width of the room. This is a great trick for halls, entryways, narrow dining rooms, gym rooms and master bathrooms.

3. Coordinate the color schemes. That is the style, size, and design of your mirror should match or enhance the color scheme in your home. For example, if it's rustic, choose a mirror that's framed in hardwood with nice carvings. Something eclectic is a nice touch too. Bronze-tinted mirrors make people look younger and healthier.

4. Brighten up your entry. Mirrors placed in a foyer or entryway is a welcomed sight for guests. They reflect light and open up a dark entry and give a place for guests to check themselves while entering your home.

5. Place a lighting fixture to bathe your mirror with soft light. This is a very effective way to make your foyer soft and homey not to mention extremely relaxing especially for family members and guests who want to enter to a relaxing room after a particularly stressful day.

6. Hunt for your unique pieces. You don't need to spend a lot of money in your mirror, or buy it straight from the furniture store. Mirrors come in all shapes, styles and sizes and can be found anywhere from discount retailers and garage sales to flea markets. They should be chosen based on the size and decor of your room.

7. Full-length mirrors make a room seem larger. A full-mirrored wall will optically expand and add glamour to a room. Consider adding a folding screen of mirrored panels to the corner of a room to add light and dimension. Just glue molding around each full-length mirror and secure each side with hinges.

8. A collection of small mirrors can add great interest to a wall. When using a group of mirrors, concentrate on choosing interesting frames in a variety of shapes and sizes. To create a cohesive grouping, you may want to consider using mirrors with the same or similarly colored frames. To arrange a group, hang the largest mirror first, and then add a smaller one of similar shape. Finish with yet another small mirror in a different shape. Space them all evenly on the wall.

9. Place a mirror over the fireplace. For most home's the fireplace is already the focal point of the room in which it resides. Add more emphasis to the fireplace by placing a beautifully framed mirror above the mantel. This will enlarge the room, and add a reflective surface to the décor you place on the mantle. From candle sticks to seasonal décor, a fireplace begs for a gorgeous mirror to adorn it.

10. Prepare your handyman tools. You will need a few basic tools to hang mirrors: hammer, small nails, a measuring tape and perhaps some way of checking to see that the mirrors are level. Hardware stores and home-decorating stores now carry a wide variety of hanging clips, wire and other devices that are perfecting for locating mirrors in the room. (Don't hesitate to place mirrors in places other than on the walls. Some mirrors will work very well on a stand if the placement is right.

Home Decor - Shabby Chic Decorating Ideas for the Kitchen to Use Today!

Decorating Ideas For Family Room

Are you looking for shabby chic decorating ideas to use in your kitchen? Here are several easy and fun ideas that I have personally used to incorporate shabby chic decorating in that all-important room of the house--the kitchen.

Start by taking an inventory of keepsakes and newer knick knacks that you like and could be used as shabby chic home décor in the kitchen. Keepsakes that I used in my shabby chic kitchen were an old wooden recipe box, vintage measuring spoons, old tin cookie cutters, a miniature iron, an antique compact, a ceramic rose-design dish with lid and serving spoon, a vintage tea set and a couple of small photos in antique frames.

Decide where you will display your items. I used a tall, wrought iron corner shelf with four shelves to display the above items. On each shelf I draped a small lace doily that hung over the edge of the shelf. What I liked best about this collection was that it was tucked into a corner and out of the flow of traffic, and at the same time it was very attractive. It was a wonderful way to display keepsakes instead of having them packed away in a box.

Shabby chic home décor such as vintage bowls, trays and vases can be displayed on countertops and then brought to life by actually using them. Your family and guests will enjoy the uniqueness of their past and also their present beauty. For most family holiday dinners I bring out the family heirloom serving bowls and trays. What a great way to remember those good 'ole days!

Kitchen curtains are an excellent way to add that shabby chic look with a unique twist. In place of the traditional café curtains, use a valance scarf made out of beautiful shabby chic cotton. Instead of draping the valance scarf over a rod use a scroll-type hook, drape the scarf as usual over the hooks and then thread the scarf through each hook from the back to create a "puffy circular" look to each corner of the window. This is very attractive and unique plus holds the scarf in place. The sides of the scarf hang about half-way down the window for added interest.

A wrought iron chandelier with a distressed finish is a great shabby chic home decor addition over the dining table in the kitchen. It adds flair to the shabby chic décor without being too formal.

Remember, shabby chic decorating can be used in any room of the house. Let your imagination and ingenuity flow to create a beautiful and unique shabby chic look to your home.

Once you have your sunroom completed, then the hard part of the job starts the decorating. You may have some sunroom decorating ideas in mind but once you start looking in magazines for sample colors and types of furniture, you will realize that the decisions are not as easy as you first thought. If you don't put a lot of thought into your decorating you may not be able to achieve the exact effect you want the sunroom to have.

If the sunroom is straight across the back or the front of the house, then you can make it look like a patio in the way you choose the decorations. A sunroom with an interior done in wood is well suited to rattan furniture or even wicker so that it gives the room an outdoorsy look. You can choose vintage cushions and pillows to give your sunroom a rustic or country feel. Showpieces placed on shelves, plants in standing and hanging planters and colourful mats on the floor will all add to the ambiance of the sunroom being a place where you can relax.

There is a range of designs in wall coverings that will really enhance the sunroom as well. You can have the interior done totally in wood with pine walls and ceilings or you can have drywall that you paint in bright colors. Wallpaper in floral or other designs will give a nice cozy feel to the room. You may like the paintable wallpaper which shows out a design through the color you choose or one that has mosaics or tiles on the wall.

The way in which you decorate the sunroom also depends on the way in which you intend to use the room. You may want to have small tables and chairs where you can sit and enjoy your coffee in the morning with the newspaper or it may be a place where you want to have comfortable soft chairs for entertaining guests. It may even be a place where you want to work out and so you will need a place for your exercise equipment.

Soft light colors in the sunroom will give it a relaxed atmosphere. Large windows to let the sun in should also have appropriate window coverings so that the UV rays won't cause your furniture or pillow coverings to fade. These lighter colors will give the room the appearance of being larger than it actually is. Coordinate the colors of the blinds and the cushions with that of the walls and the floor mats. If the sunroom is attached to the house, you should also think about coordinating the decor with that of the rest of your house so that all the rooms seem to have the same background.

Whether you have a small or large sunroom, you need to place the furniture so that there is plenty of room to move about. If the door to your home is in the middle of the room arrange the furniture at both ends so that you won't block the access to this door. Make sure that when you are seated you won't have to stand to let someone else in or out.

Read through Family Safety In Online Chat Rooms more

A chat room is a place online that essentially allows people to carry on a conversation, in a group, through typing. The minute you hit 'enter,' your message is seen by everyone that is logged in to the room. While these can be great places to find intriguing conversation, they also pose some very real risks, for both adults and children alike. When thinking Internet safety, it is also important to consider chat room safety for the whole family.

Before you begin chatting away, you and your family should keep a few things in mind. Since most chat rooms are open to anyone, there is usually no way to verify the identity of the person you're talking with. And because the discussion is public, anything that is said can be read by everyone present, or copied and posted elsewhere. Most chat services do offer an option for a private chat. Although this can be great for adults, or for two children that are already friends, it can also be where perpetrators are lurking to have inappropriate conversations with unsuspecting children.

One way to keep your family safe in chat rooms is to restrict the use to paid-only services. Often, if someone with ulterior motives is required to enter a valid credit or debit card number, it discourages them from joining. In addition, mandatory identification verification can make it much easier for administrators and law enforcement officials to track abusers if necessary. Talk candidly with your family about smart chat room behavior, and in turn, listen to what they have to say.

When enrolling in a chat service, whether paid or free, choose a screen name that is not easily gender identified. Choosing a gender-neutral name can discourage perpetrators because they are unsure of who they are dealing with. Also, don't list your age. If your chat service asks you to create a profile, only enter a minimal amount of information, and nothing that will indicate your age or gender. If you are in a chat room and you witness anything that you feel is not appropriate, report it immediately to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's CyberTip Line.

Avoid posting pictures of yourself and your family in chat sessions or online profiles. When someone asks what you are doing, do not divulge your daily routine to them. With ISP addresses widely available, it is easy for online perpetrators to learn your location; if they have your daily routine committed to memory it is easier for them to victimize you and your family.

Don't open any links that you are given during a chat session. Most often, especially if you are chatting with friends you know very well, these links will lead to harmless YouTube videos. If you're dealing with someone you just met though, you may be given a link to a pornographic website or a virus that will infect your computer.

Last but certainly not least, don't forget to pay attention to instant messenger services as well; often, private chat sessions can spill over in to this more immediate form of communication. What's worse, most cell phones now offer instant messenger through your standard cell phone agreement, and kids are savvy to that.

Overall, your family is relatively safe in Internet chat sites. Although the television would lead you to believe that there are millions of children being exploited due to chat rooms and social networking sites, the reality is, the percentage is very low. Be vigilant in monitoring what is going on inside your family computer, and keep open the lines of communication with your children. If you really listen to what they are saying, you will find that they give you great insight into their online lives. These bits of information can be used later on to start conversations with your family about chat room safety.

The ideal entrance to your living room should open from a foyer. When the front door opens directly into the living room, a buffer is needed to slow down the fast flowing energy from the entrance to your home.

You should choose colors for your living room that are beneficial to your Kua number and direction or that suit your overall harmony. I recently did a Feng Shui for a lady who was a West person that had a green sofa and love seat in her home. If she would have read this book or consulted with me before buying the sofa she would have known that green is the worst color for her to use. Her whole living room was green. She immediately went out and bought gold covers and saw an improvement with her life soon after. Her business improved tremendously. Place green plants around the room, but balance them with other things. Your furniture should be spacious, uncluttered and pleasing to the eye. Paintings should be warm and inviting. Never have cactus in your home. Cactus is the worst kind of plant you can have in your home. They are very unlucky. Try to keep a nice bouquet of fresh flowers near the entrance to the house. People feel immediately at ease when they see fresh flowers. This is the reason you always see fresh flowers in restaurants or in the lobbies of hotels. Your living room should be fresh and have a feeling of being lived in. So many families have family rooms they use instead of their living rooms, saving the living room for special occasions. Rooms in your home that are unused accumulate stagnant energy and detract from an otherwise balanced home.

Live in this room! That's how it got its name!

Fireplaces, regardless of the room where they are found, should never be left uncovered. A screen or glass should cover the opening. Open fireplaces leak out good ch'i energy and take away all of your money.

Kitchen Decorating Ideas

Decorating Ideas For Family Room

More and more today, the kitchen is the most popular room in the house. No longer just the place where food is stored and prepared, it has become the focal point of home life. Kitchens used to be closed off from the rest of the house with walls and doors. Today, however, both in new houses and in remodeled older style homes, you can see into the kitchen from the living room, the family room, or both. Since the kitchen is constantly on view, kitchen decorating is an important part of home decor.

Some kitchens are treated as completely separate areas in plain view. Others are carefully decorated to blend in with adjoining spaces. In both cases, kitchen wall treatments are key to decorating this busy room. Paint continues to be a popular choice, but the range of "kitchen" colors has exploded. Cornflower blue, butter yellow, bright reds and lively greens are commonly used as a base for French country or Tuscan kitchen decorating themes. Wallpaper options run the gamut from contemporary designs to Americana. In addition, slate, saltillo and ceramic tiles once used exclusively on floors are being used on walls to add texture and visual interest.

Part of decorating a kitchen is creating an organized space. Whether you have a specific decorating theme or not, you'll want to give some thought to which kitchen accessories stay on the countertop and which are hidden in cupboards and drawers. Many cooks find a tall cylindrical container to hold frequently used cooking utensils keeps them from frantically rummaging through drawers. Appliances that get regular use, such as toasters and electric can openers are a good choice for countertop position, although most can be mounted under high cupboards.

Major appliance manufacturers recognize that their merchandise is a major visual element in any kitchen. Instead of just offering a choice between white, black, harvest gold or green, they produce an amazing range of "looks." From gleaming stainless steel, to retro 1950's look to standard white, you can choose refrigerators and stoves that blend with your kitchen decor. Some manufacturers can even help you match your appliances to your countertops for a seamless look.

As in any room in the house, it's the little touches that pull your kitchen's look together. Choose a "punch" color (usually contrasting to your walls) for window treatments and a throw rug. A tiled sink backsplash in this shade will add an extra bit of pizazz. Don't be afraid to add ornaments to the walls of your kitchen. Framed family photos, or even a collection of cookie cutters will add personality and warmth.

Examine Decorating Trends - Living and Family Rooms much more

Brown is the color for security and stability. It has varied shades such as beige, light tan, and subdued mocha. Brown is also a sophisticated color and adds antiquity to your living room. You can use the different tones of brown to strike difference between the walls and your living room furniture. If you are having problems in filling up a large family room, painting it brown will make it look smaller. That will solve your problem of putting so many fixtures just to make sure it will not look like it is lacking of decors and fixtures.

In striking balance for your brown-colored walls, you must consider factors like the size, color, and arrangement of your furniture. The following are guidelines for effectively choosing the right furniture for your brown- walled living room:

You need your walls and furniture to have varying shades of brown. If the walls are of light brown hues, choose chocolate-brown furniture and vice versa. Avoid big brown furniture though; this will prevent you from striking balance in the room.

If you do not like your furniture in brown shades, you can choose green instead. Green is the perfect partner for brown as they evoke a nature feeling in the room. Green and brown are the normal color combination of the majority of plants so this will surely make you feel fresh and revived whenever you are in the family room. You can also have a lighter shade of green on the walls or put green wallpaper against the brown walls.

Aside from green hues, blue is another color that will match well with brown as it is also a nature color. You can put paintings of the sea and ocean on the brown walls. This will make the background look more alive.

A mixture of green and blue is another good option for you. Pillows and rugs are great in blue and green hues. Teal and turquoise are other shades of blue you can use.

Specific furniture like your entertainment set, couch, coffee table and other big furniture must be of the same color.

Chrome furniture and clear acrylic chairs are likewise good to have in your brown-colored living room.

White, a neutral color, will definitely match your brown walls. Lamps are the perfect furniture to be in white hues as well as in cream or beige.

Your drapes may also be in white or blue. Ocean blue is the perfect shade to use.

Place your accentuations on one brown wall to serve as the accent area of the room. You may opt to have them in varying hues or they may appear in different shades of the same color.

The maximum number you can choose for your living room is three, so you can opt to use the three prominent tones of brown: light brown, medium brown, and dark brown. Create a progressive pattern of these three shades in your furniture.

Teal and aqua blue mixed with cream brown will make the room look more alluring and inviting.

One of the easiest colors to blend with is brown. So if you do not want to have a hard time looking for furniture to match your living room theme, use brown for your wall paint color.

Let your imagination run wild and let yourself develop creative ideas for your living room. Do not forget to express your personality, though.

Understand Best Ideas For Decorating a Kitchen on a Budget far more

Nearly every home owner knows that decorating or remodeling a kitchen is one of the most expensive projects in the home. If you cannot afford new counter tops, floors and cabinets, how can you renovate the kitchen and give it fresh, new appeal? We have several ideas, all of which you will find below.

Your kitchen is a place where friends and family gather to enjoy good meals, visit and discuss the day. In fact, many families spend more time in this room than they do in the living or family room.

Give the walls a face lift

The easiest (and perhaps most affordable) thing you can do to update your kitchen and dining areas is to paint the walls. You might consider using a bright, sunny yellow or a soft pumpkin shade to add life to the room. Go online and learn about some of the techniques you can handle yourself to add texture to the walls, things such as ragging, rag-rolling and sponging. The looks you can accomplish with paint today are absolutely amazing!

Consider doing the baseboards and door trim in a complementing or contrasting shade to make your walls pop.

Small accents make a big difference

Most likely, you cannot afford to put new cabinets in your kitchen. However, there are some things you can do yourself that will give them an entirely new look!

Consider changing the hardware. You can find cabinet door knobs and drawer pulls in all types of materials, colors and designs. Some are elegant, some are country-themed, some are bright and colorful, and others are simple. Decide what goes best with your decor.

For the cabinet doors, consider accenting them with a pattern if they are of a solid color or stained wood. You can use wallpaper or paint to place a rectangle around the entire perimeter, or be creative and come up with your own unique design!

Fabrics

Years ago, many women didn't really like to use much fabric in the kitchen and avoided window treatments, table cloths, etc. Fabrics were hard to get cleaned, and grease stains were challenging to remove. Now, nearly any material can be washed.

Think about making your own window hangings, table runners and dinner napkins! This is an easy task, even for those who don't sew. If you can cut out a shape, you can use hemming tape around the edges to give your decorations a nice, clean border. Consider adding lace or rick rack around the edges to add charm.

Clear your counters off and remove any gadgets or small appliances you don't use every day. A clean counter top makes a room look organized; too many things setting around make it look cluttered and messy. Keep accessories to a minimum; a ceramic vase filled with flowers and a basket full of fruits and greenery are all that you need to give your kitchen a fresh, vibrant appeal.

Put these ideas to work in your kitchen, and you will find that you can see a total transformation for under $100!

Decorating Ideas Using Movie Memorabilia

Decorating Ideas

Decorating Ideas

If you are somebody who sleeps, breathes, and lives movies, there isn't any shortage of decorating choices to change your media room or home to an Oscar-winning set. This post offers ideas about on how you can begin.

Define Your Budget

The first measure in integrating movie memorabilia within your design scheme includes determining if you envision the decorating job as a full-scale blockbuster or shoestring indie flick. It, in turn, will influence how much time it is going to take in order to accomplish the Hollywood appearance you are going for. Evaluate if it is possible to build around a couple of film collectibles you own already and make this a weekend project or have to begin to save up for the acquisition of real movie props over a lengthier time period.

Display and Theme Identification

Decorating using movie memorabilia may take on two forms. The initial one includes going the generic path by gathering pieces which commonly are related to making movies as well as going to the theater. The additional path includes focusing upon the trademarks of a certain movie or a specific film genre which is attractive to you. If you wish to go with the generic path and turn the powder room to a celebrity's glamorous dressing room or a media room to a vibrant filmmaking posters and props display, the pieces you require are going to cost you much less if they are replicas you have bought from venues like Your props, All Movie Replicas, All Posters, and The Movie Shop. In this case, the emphasis would be ambiance instead of authenticity. If you are gathering original film costumes and artifacts as a collection, the conditions underneath which you display these items must take into account things such as temperature, lighting, breakability, moisture, and if the memorabilia will invite lots of touching.

Use Your Imagination

In order to get you considering various display strategies for your movie memorabilia, here include ten tips to help you begin.

(1) Replace your lighting within your selected room with film studio lamps in black or theater wall sconces.

(2) You can display your movie-themed books using the covers facing out upon your bookshelf.

(3) Glance over the covers of all of your DVD and VHS movies and develop an oversized collage. If you own a table that has a glass top that is removable, utilize that for display, as well, alongside ticket stubs, photographs or even film reviews.

(4) Purchase cheap Halloween-style costumes for characters such as Batman, Spiderman, and Captain Jack Sparrow, as well as hang the items on pegs within your entryway.

(5) Purchase cardboard lobby cut-outs then put them within unpredictable places all throughout your home. If you are familiar with somebody who is employed at a theater, ask what the movie theater does with its displays following the movie's run ending.

(6) Purchase Hollywood stars decals and place them upon the exterior of inside doors.

(7) Replace your door pulls and handles using decorative hardware that's shaped similar to film reels.

(8) You can intersperse movie star head shots amongst family photographs on your fireplace mantles and walls.

(9) Put in a decorative rod above the entryway to the media room then hang a red velvet curtain.

(10) Buy salvaged movie theater seats, modify a plain bar to a concession stand that has its own popcorn maker then adorn the back wall using tin signs.
